A popular adage states, "When a woman is healthy, her family, community and society thrive." Dr Michelle Chee resonates this very much when it comes to restoring women's health, whether it be mental health, physical health or sexual and reproductive health. She is trained with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for her Associate Training Program (Advanced Procedural) (APTP) previous known as Advanced Diploma.
She provides GP obstetrics work in rural from time to time when not in town but is a very qualified GP shared-care physician in the metropolitan area. If you are pregnant and in the low-risk category, Michelle can provide this service to care for you throughout your pregnancy (if you opt for this model care). The best part is that she will also look after you and your newborn. The tender post-partum period is when you need the most support.
Besides pregnancy, you can discuss everything and anything relating to a woman’s health with her, including period problems, pelvic pain, contraception methods, menopause symptoms, HRT, and the list goes on. She also provides Implanon, Mirena (IUD) and Kyleena (IUD) insertion services.
Although Michelle heavily portrays herself as a women's health GP, she has a few strides up her sleeves. She did an extended training in mental health with the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) as a psychiatry registrar for six months as part of her family medicine training. Dr Chee is well-versed in the wide range of mental health presentations and their complexity. Hence, she is passionate about giving a listening ear with a non-judgmental approach, helping you navigate it all at your own pace.
She advocates a biopsychosocial holistic approach to your care, whether it be getting in touch with qualified psychologist support, getting involved in a rehabilitation program, or commencing medications. She also holds a professional certificate in dermoscopy. She is qualified to perform skin checks, and with her surgical skills, she does skin biopsy and excisional treatment in the GP setting when deemed appropriate.
